If you’re dissatisfied with the in-browser IRC client (let’s face it, it’s pretty bad), we highly recommend you download and install a native IRC client for your operating system.

XChat 2 For Windows is a fantastic IRC client that’s easy to set up and connect with.
Linux
Use your Linux flavor’s repository installer to get xchat. For example, in Ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install xchat
Mac
Colloquy is the best open-source IRC client for OSX
